The new program — dubbed Score! — lets you “unlock sweet deals on every smartphone T-Mobile sells,” the company said. It works like this: Join Score! for $5 a month, and after six months in the program you’ll qualify for a free entry-level smartphone like the Alcatel One Touch Evolve 2. After 12 months, you’ll be able to get deals on all T-Mobile smartphones, including the newest 4G LTE devices. The 12-month deals could include a free LG L90 LTE smartphone or “at least” $150 off a phone like the Samsung Galaxy S5 $660.00 at T-Mobile.
“Score! is a radically new Un-carrier approach to locking in lower costs on your next smartphone,” T-Mobile president and CEO John Legere said in a statement. “And, it’s yet another breakthrough improvement over the old-school carriers’ restrictive service contracts, hidden subsidy costs and slooooow upgrades.”
Score! is available to all T-Mobile customers, including those on the newly launched Simply Prepaid plans.
The promotion comes after T-Mobile last week launched a new “Smartphone Equality” promotion promising access to the company’s best deals even if you have crappy credit. As part of that offer, every T-Mobile customer who has paid their wireless bill on time for a year will qualify for the lowest pricing on smartphones and tablet, regardless of credit history.
T-Mobile already has an early upgrade option, dubbed Jump. Buy a new phone and sign up for an extra $10 per month payment, which entitles you to upgrades at any time. “Whenever you’re ready to upgrade, simply trade in your eligible device and T-Mobile will pay off your remaining device payments, up to half of your device cost,” T-Mobile said.
